R.I.P. Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson was pronounced dead today, June 25th, at around 2:25pm pacific time. The King of Pop had suffered a cardiac arrest earlier in his home and staff members called 911 immediately. Paramedics found him not breathing and tried to resuscitate him while on the way to the UCLA Medical Center. Jackson had fallen into a coma shortly after arriving at the hospital, and was declared dead shortly after. Thousands of fans gathered around the world to pay tribute to their idol, Michael Jackson.

UPDATE: I will make no further comment on his death or personal life. Let the man rest.

The Runaways, a biographical film based on the band, began filming in June 2009 with actresses Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning cast as Jett and Currie. Alessandra Torresani has been cast as Lita Ford while Stella Maeve will play Sandy West. Joan Jett is the executive producer. The film is written and to be directed by Floria Sigismondi, and is slated for a 2010 release. Currently Stewart and Jet are recording material for the films soundtrack.

H&M collaborates with Jimmy Choo

H&M has teamed up with fashion label Jimmy Choo to collaborate in what many are saying will be the ultimate fashion trend this year! The duo plan on releasing various collections on accessories, bags, shoes, and a clothing line for both men and women. This new concept and work is scheduled for a Nov. 14th launch.

H&M is no stranger when it comes to collaborating with high end fashion designers. You may recall them teaming up with Matthew Williamson and Carlos Falchi, but it is rare when such a popular and high fashion shoe line, like Choo, team up with a label that qualifies for the lower-mass market.

The Swedish fashion giant seems to be heading where the people invest their money.

Looking back at the latest "news", I've realized we are no different than anyone else. Maybe I'm late on this, but it is a reality check. Our mindsets are no different, we think in violent ways and we act in violent ways. The difference is that some people out there have no choice but to defend themselves, while we as Americans living in a much "safer" community (compared to others) have a choice for such actions. The point is, that we as humans shouldn't act in such vicious ways nor should we take our voices/rights for granted and use them as hurtful tools.

Surface To Air

Since last Summer, when the fashion line Surface To Air launched its new private collection referencing and inspired wear by popular French duo JUSTICE, fashion experts have been keeping an eye on their new collections for 2009. Band members Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay teamed up with with the French label of Paris to create and develop their own limited and exclusive edition of clothes. Their idea of apparel was to create a clothing line that screamed rock and roll and in your face rebel attitude. Now that their famous leather jackets and skinny pants have become a trend, Surface To Air have came up with new collections similar to those from last year.

HOME: A Global Documentary

HOME is a documentary directed by Yann Arthus-Bertrand. It showcases the diversity of life on Earth and how we as humans have been threatening the ecological system. Russell Dean Stone band is the latest buzz on the internet rings!

This much hyped band has been causing quite the buzz online lately. I first discovered them while browsing through new and upcoming artists on Myspace. The minute I listened to their music I was hooked. Their sounds consists of rock, pop, synth, and dramatic tunes. Their music reminds me a lot of Depeche Mode, Morrissey, and Patti Smith. This unsigned band is sure to keep people tuned in this Summer!

Emo Legends Reunion

The Get Up Kids, one of the most well-known emo bands in the industry, have announced a reunion. As you may recall band frontman Matt Pryor hinted this back when he performed at the Where's The Band Tour? as a solo artist. Their reunion will follow up with their first tour since going on hiatus back in 2005. The band will play across North America and Europe this Fall. Fall Fashion Trends

During the recent acclaimed and popular trade show in Las Vegas and San Diego, buzz was that buyers were hooked on classics. That's right, looks like Fall will be filled with classic fashion trends from the 80's and vintage inspired wear. The look buyers showed most interest in varied from outdoors-inspired chic to tailored-menswear silhouettes. Classic musts such as the famous leather motor-jacket, plaid shirts, skinny boy next door jeans, and accessories such as scarves with abstract patterns and big buckle belts made a primary statement during the shows.

Kanye West and Lady Gaga have announced plans for a Fall tour! Although dates haven't been confirmed it is official for a duo tour. According to sources, both artists will conjugate in a headlining event expected to blow audiences minds, meaning there will be no headliner as both artists are set to perform together. How will this work out? I don't have a clue, but it sure sounds like a theatrical scenario with amazing music! Stay tuned for tickets and tour dates.

Summer Health

So It's Summer season and you know what that means, booze, beaches, parties, and looking healthy in that bikini!

I decided to do a little research on what's best to eat during the Summer for a healthy diet. Leave the burgers and hotdogs aside, even if the 4th of July doesn't feel like, well, 4th of July! Health comes first and we all want to look good for our "viewers". Here are a few salad recipes that can come in handy with replacing those fatty foods for the Summer.


Mediterranean Swordfish Salad

"Swordfish joins cherry tomatoes and crumbled feta cheese for a simple salad that's brimming with taste, thanks to fresh oregano and lemon juice."

Recipe:

* 3 tablespoon(s) olive oil
* 1 (1 inch thick, about 1 1/4 pounds) swordfish steak
* 1/4 teaspoon(s) ground black pepper
* 3/4 teaspoon(s) salt
* 2 tablespoon(s) fresh lemon juice
* 1 1/2 teaspoon(s) fresh oregano leaves, chopped
* 1/2 teaspoon(s) dried oregano, (can be substituted for above ingredient)
* 1 (about 12 ounces) English (seedless) cucumber
* 1 pint(s) grape or cherry tomatoes
* 1/3 cup(s) feta cheese, crumbled

DIRECTIONS:

1. In 10-inch skillet, heat 1 tablespoon oil over medium-high heat until very hot. Pat swordfish dry with paper towels. Add swordfish to skillet; sprinkle with pepper and 1/2 teaspoon salt and cook 10 to 12 minutes or until swordfish is browned on both sides and just turns opaque throughout, turning over once.
2. Meanwhile, in large bowl, combine lemon juice, oregano, and remaining 2 tablespoons oil and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Cut unpeeled cucumber into 1/2-inch chunks. Cut each tomato in half.
3. When swordfish is done, transfer to cutting board; trim and discard skin. Cut swordfish into 1-inch cubes. Add swordfish, cucumber, and tomatoes to dressing in bowl; toss gently to coat. Sprinkle with feta to serve.

Spicy Thai Vegan Steak and Noodles with Chili and Lemongrass Dressing

Traditional Thai spices and flavors, and Morningstar Farms® Meal Starters™ Veggie Steak Strips, punch up this recipe."

Recipe:


* 1/4 cup(s) rice wine vinegar
* 2 tablespoon(s) olive oil
* 2 tablespoon(s) reduced-sodium soy sauce
* 2 small red Thai chili peppers, or 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper
* 1 stalk(s) lemongrass, finely chopped, or 1/2 teaspoon grated lemon peel
* 1 tablespoon(s) fresh cilantro
* 2 teaspoon(s) toasted sesame oil
* 6 ounce(s) dried flat Asian noodles or dried linguine
* 4 ounce(s) fresh asparagus, cut into 1-inch pieces (1 cup)
* 1 cup(s) fresh pea pods
* 1 cup(s) julienne-cut carrots
* 1 package(s) (8 ounces) Morningstar Farms® Meal Starters™ Veggie Steak Strips
* 2 tablespoon(s) coarsely chopped cashews


DIRECTIONS:

1. For dressing, in small food processor bowl combine vinegar, olive oil, soy sauce, chili peppers, lemongrass, cilantro, and sesame oil. Cover and process until nearly smooth. Set aside.
2. Cook noodles according to package directions, except add asparagus, pea pods, and carrots during the last 2 minutes of cooking. Drain.
3. Meanwhile, cook Morningstar Farms® Meal Starters™ Veggie Steak Strips according to package directions.
4. In large bowl toss together noodle mixture, steak strips, dressing, and cashews.

Salad Niçoise

"This classic French composed salad — with its hard-boiled eggs, baby red potatoes, olives, and tuna — is the perfect entrée for a ladies' lunch or light dinner."

Recipe:

Parsley Vinaigrette:

* 1/4 cup(s) loosely packed fresh parsley leaves, chopped
* 1/4 cup(s) red wine vinegar
* 3 tablespoon(s) olive oil
* 1 teaspoon(s) Dijon mustard
* 1/4 teaspoon(s) salt
* 1/4 teaspoon(s) ground black pepper

DIRECTIONS:

1. * 1 pound(s) (small) red potatoes, unpeeled
2. * 6 large eggs
3. * 1/2 pound(s) green beans, trimmed and each cut crosswise in half
4. * 1 bag(s) (5-ounce) mixed baby greens (about 8 cups loosely packed)
5. * 1 head(s) Boston lettuce, separated into leaves (can be substituted for above ingredient)
6. * 1/2 English (seedless) cucumber, thinly sliced
7. * 1 can(s) (12-ounce) solid white tuna in water, drained
8. * 3 medium tomatoes, cut into wedges
9. * 1/2 cup(s) (about 3 ounces) niçoise olives

TETRO

American film director Francis Ford Coppola returns to what he does best: directing and producing films. Coppola, no stranger to great films, is set to deliver a new film based on some personal pieces. Although he has mentioned that Tetro, his new film, is not an autobiographical piece. It will star US actor Vincent Gallo (The Brown Bunny), the Spaniard and beautiful Maribel Verdu (Pan's Labyrinth) and newcomer Alden Ehrenreich. The total budget of this film is estimated to be around 15 million dollars.
Like many of his films, Tetro tells the story of an Italian family who immigrated to Argentina. There, Ehrenreich's character is determined to look for his older brother (played by Gallo). Verdu's character is married to Gallo in the film, and during the film the family is shaken by disturbing and fierce rivalries derived from hatred and tragedies.
Most of the film was filmed in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It has a new up to date film noir kind of vibe from the early years of cinema. The black and white piece has been getting great reviews.




The new film is due out in limited release on June 11th
